Makedonski Telekom - Company - Background

Background

Prior to 1 January 1997, the predecessor of the company provided telecommunication, postal, banking and other services in the Republic of Macedonia under the name of PTT Macedonia. In accordance with the Decision of the Government of the RM from 1996, PTT Macedonia was divided into two new legal entities – AD Makedonski Telekomunikacii and AD Makedonski Posti. This Decision entered into force on 1 January 1997.  This resulted in the division of the postal activities from the telecommunication and telegraph activities, as well as in dividing the relevant assets and liabilities.

In March 1998, the Company was registered as a joint stock company in state ownership for the purpose of its preparation for privatization.

On 15 January 2000, the Government of the Republic of Macedonia and the Consortium led by the Hungarian telecommunication operator MATAV signed a contract for the sale and purchase of shares in MT, whereby MATAV entered the book of shares of MT as an owner of 51% of the shares, thus becoming a dominant owner of the company.   Formerly known as MATAV, today it is called Magyar Telekom Group and is part of the international Deutsche Telekom Group.

In the period after its privatization, MT has undertaken important steps in the direction of its development and facing the competition on the market.  For the purpose of achieving better flexibility and adjustability to the customer needs, the company is continuously working to introduce the new world technologies and increase the customers’ trust.

The provisioning of tailor-made services to every customer for the purpose of obtaining solutions to all communication needs and demands is our underlying determination and to that end we develop into a company close to our customers.

The new era of the company’s development starts in May 2008 with the arrival of the ultra-recognizable global T brand.

On 1 May 2008, AD Makedonski Telekomunikacii modified its legal name into Makedonski Telekom AD - Skopje.  Today, Makedonski Telekom AD is a company entirely focused on the achievement of top quality in its operation and activity.

To this end, and in accordance with the latest telecommunication trends, the company is continuously focused on the modern day needs and demands of the customers, always using the best operational practices of the Deutsche Telekom Group.
