Makedonski Telekom and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology in May 2019 announced their partnership for testing the 5G technology. Makedonski Telekom will install 5G equipment and testing devices that will enable the students and professors to be the first to work on the functionalities of this new technology standard.

The tests will be made on the new equipment of Macedonian Telecom in "5G Evolution Laboratory" within the Laboratory for Wireless and Mobile Networks, which belongs to the Telecommunications Institute at FEEIT.
With new 5G equipment and devices in the newly established laboratory the students and the professors will have a unique opportunity to be the first ones in the country to perform real scenario tests, experiments and researches related to the future technologies. This will bring the 5G technologies closer to the students, future telecom professionals who will have the opportunity to be the first to test the benefits of the new revolutionary technology. The results will be used for scientific purposes and improvements to services which in the future will be made available to the users.

In the coming years, 5G or fifth generation network will not only bring enormous data transfer speeds over internet and real-time communication, but it will completely change the way our society works.
