In today's connected world, responsibility is extremely important. A responsibility that goes beyond merely creating a superior infrastructure. Responsibility for sustainability and preservation of natural resources, responsibility for reducing the digital divide and an equal digital society. Responsibility for a shared sustainable future.
With the hashtags #GreenMagenta and #GoodMagenta, Deutsche Telekom underlines its responsibility towards the environment and society.
#GreenMagenta is used for products, projects, measures and initiatives that bring about positive change aimed at mitigating climate change and responsible use of resources. These hashtags are carried by exceptional initiatives within the entire group.
#GoodMagenta is about initiatives that give rise to positive change in the digital world and affect the reduction of the digital divide. In this context, the creation of a better and safer internet space is especially important.

As part of the Deutsche Telekom Group, we are committed to reducing the harmful impact on nature in our daily work and by encouraging green initiatives. Climate change affects us all and it is our shared responsibility to make a difference. The circular economy is our strategic commitment, and one of the main elements of the circular economy is the reduction of electronic waste and the reuse of old mobile phone materials.
Makedonski Telekom, together with the other European subsidiaries of Deutsche Telekom, is involved in the eco-initiative to reduce electronic waste by collecting old electronic devices and investing in natural habitat restoration in Europe.
Our local e-waste reduction campaign, called Green Magenta, started two years ago and is still ongoing. In all our shops, old mobile phones are collected in partnership with “Zero Waste”. To encourage customers to join this initiative, for every old device, they get a discount on the purchase of a new smartphone. At the moment, the discount applies to the purchase of a new T Phone. In this way, the customers actively participate in the protection of the environment. So far, over 15,000 old electronic devices have been collected, and the action is still ongoing.
The aim of this initiative is for all of us to work together in order to reduce the harmful impacts on nature and create a healthier environment and а better future for all.
As creators of the digital future, it is also our task to influence the creation of its ethics. Hate speech on the internet is one of the biggest challenges today that affects everyone, especially young people. As a generation that spends the most time online, they are most exposed to hate speech and peer-to-peer online violence. According to a UReport survey, as many as 24% of young people who have access to the Internet felt unsafe online at least once in the last year.
It is a phenomenon of modern society that causes increasing concern and problems for young people, but also for their parents, guardians and educators. That is why we have a responsibility to make a positive change and participate in creating a safe internet space.
Our motive is to create a safe internet and inspire as many young people as possible to fight against violence and encourage creative and positive energy online. And it is precisely the opinion of their peers that means the most to young people. Therefore, the way an initiative will have the most impact is when it is led by young people, allowing them to be creators, participants and faces of the campaign. That is how we created the youth initiative: Together for a Hate-Free Internet with which we actively involve young people and give them a voice, tools, knowledge to fight for a hate-free internet and be the bearers of change themselves. The initiative is part of a long-standing partnership between the Foundation Telekom for Macedonia and UNICEF, whose goal is to involve children and youth in tackling some of the biggest challenges facing their generation.
The initiative commenced with an open call to children and youth from the country to participate in workshops to create a safe internet campaign. During the workshops, 30 children and young people participated in group creative sessions to conceptualize a campaign and generate messages. Young people learned more about online peer violence, how to recognize and prevent it, defined goals for behavior change and worked on a narrative. By creating together with psychologists, creative experts and communication experts, they worked on the plan and concept for the campaign, creating videos and other communication materials. They discussed problems and their solutions, studied and worked together with professionals, created videos, acted, directed and socialized.
Under the slogan “Bullying Bye-Bye”, the campaign includes over twenty social media videos. Some including messages like “Words carry weight so choose them carefully” to shed light on the harmful effects of cyberbullying. Others include messages urging young people themselves not to be passive observers and offer support if they witness cyberbullying. The campaign was launched on social media on the International Day Against Hate Speech. The passion, dedication and creativity of the young people who worked on this campaign is evident in the final product. We are proud of their achievement and believe that it will positively impact many other young people.
