In the first quarter of 2023, Makedonski Telecom continued with stable growth in all segments, focus on new technologies and increasing the number of customers in all segments. The sales revenues increased by 3.7% compared to the previous year and amounted to MKD 2.9 billion.

In contrast to 2022, when the Earnings before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA), recorded a decline, in the first three months of 2023 it increased by 5.6% compared to the same period of last year. The net profit also recorded an increase of as much as 33.2%.

Intensive expansion of the optical network

With the focus on the intensive expansion of the optical network, the number of optical accesses in the country is increasing progressively. Compared to the same period in 2022, Telekom increased the number of accesses to optics by 11% and it now amounts to 281,000. In March, the number of customers of optical network exceeded 100 000. This year, a mass migration of customers from copper to optical network is planned in most of the capital city, as well as in all parts of the country where there is optical coverage.

The expansion of the 5G network, which is now available in 27 cities and their surroundings, is also continuing.

The investments in new technologies will continue throughout the year.

Market leadership and increase of the number of customers

In the first three months of 2023, the number of customers in all segments continued to increase. We remain the leader on the TV market with a share of 33.6% and a growth of 1.2 % or 148 thousand customers.

The number of broadband customers increased by 2.8% and amounted to 204 thousand, while the total number of internet accesses also increased by 2.8%.

In the segment of mobile communications, the subscriber base increased by 3.3%, whereby the number of customers reached 1.25 million. In fixed telephony, we remain in the leading position with a share of 61.2%, i.e. 224 thousand users.
