Makedonski Telekom ended the year 2022 with investments in new technologies, expansion of the network, growth of the customer base and a leadership position in the majority of the segments. The sales revenues increased by 5 percent as compared to the previous year and they amount to MKD 11.8 billion.

The negative effects of the global economic trends and the increase of the price of electricity had an impact on the operating earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA), which decreased by 3.4% as compared to the same period of the previous year.

Investments for the future – expanding the 5G and fibre-optic network

At the end of 2022, the company accomplished the foreseen plan for expanding the 5G network and it provided the customers with wide access to the latest technology. The first and the largest 5G commercial network in Macedonia is now available in 27 towns and their surroundings, while in the larger cities it is also with gigabit speeds.

In parallel with the mobile network, also the fibre-optic network underwent expansion. At the end of 2022, more than 274 thousand access points to fibre optic were enabled, which is an increase by 11% as compared to the previous year.

Customer growth

This year, the customer base marked a rise in all segments. The number of broadband internet customers increased by 3 percent and it amounts to 203 thousand, while the total number of internet access points increased by 2.9 percent.

In terms of mobile communications, the customer base increased by 4.3 percent, whereby the number of customers reached 1.2 million. In fixed telephony, we remain in the leadership position with 225 thousand customers.

Makedonski Telekom also remains to be the leader on the TV service market with a share of 33.6%. At the end of 2022, an increase of 1.2 percent was recorded, whereby the total number of customers reached 148 thousand.

Intensified development of the ICT segment

The positive trend continues also in the ICT segment. The usage of ICT and Cloud solutions and services increased the revenues from system integration and IT services by staggering 35.8 percent as compared to the previous year. The positive trend is a result of the increased revenues from ICT projects, such as Smart City.

Responsible for society and the environment

Also this year, we worked on an equal digital society and on decreasing the harmful impacts on the environment. By means of projects for reducing the digital gap we reached out to almost 30 thousand customers. As a part of our commitment to look after the environment, in 2022, together with the customers we launched an eco-action for collecting and recycling old devices and for restoring the fire-afflicted regions. We collected more than 15 000 old devices and we planted 25 000 new trees for restoring the fire-afflicted regions. This is our long-term strategy that will continue to be implemented also in the forthcoming years.
