▪ The old copper technology is being replaced

Makedonski Telekom continues with the intensive expansion of the fibre-optic network everywhere in Macedonia. In parts of Skopje (Aerodrom) the services are already exclusively on fibre optic, while the old copper technology has been disassembled. This year, a massive migration has been planned of the customers from copper to fibre optic in the major part of the capital city, as well as in all parts of the country where there is fibre-optic coverage.

Makedonski Telekom has the largest fibre-optic network in the country, with more than 270 000 households with access to fibre optic, wherein each year it ensures that it is available to additional 25 000 new households.

The benefits of this technology are as follows: high internet speeds, reliability and quality of the service.

A step forward in the modernization process is the complete abandonment of the copper infrastructure. This is also a part of our strategy for environmental protection. With the introduction of the new technologies and the abandonment of the old ones, in addition to obtaining higher speeds and a better service, also the electrical energy consumption is drastically reduced and copper is reused as a resource.

Fibre optic is a technology that is indispensable in order to achieve gigabit speeds and a basis for advanced communication services and solutions required for the digitization of society. In order to enable this technology for as many customers as possible, Telekom is working with arduous dedication on the accelerated expansion of fibre optic and on the disassembling of copper on the entire territory of the country.
