Benefits of fiber optics

Fiber optics is the most sophisticated technology in the world of broadband Internet access. Unlike the obsolete copper-based technology, with fiber optics, the Internet signal is transmitted in the form of light beams through micron optical fibers.

This allows for the transfer of plenty of data at great speeds of up to 1 Gbps, over longer distances, in the most secure way possible, as well as a stable connection, super-quality Internet on multiple devices at the same time and TV in Ultra HD without buffering.

Largest fiber optics network

Makedonski Telekom boasts the largest fiber optics network in the country with more than 270,000 households with access to fiber optics, as well as another 25,000 additional ones that Makedonski Telekom gives access to the technology on an annual basis. We recently celebrated 100,000 customers of fiber optics who, on that occasion, can activate higher optical speeds at no additional cost.

Spreading the fiber optics network

In order to enable as many customers as possible to use the benefits of fiber optics, Makedonski Telekom is painstakingly expanding the fiber optics network all over Macedonia. This year, a mass migration of customers from copper to fiber optics is planned within our capital city, as well as in all parts of the country where there is fiber optics coverage.

Ecology

In addition to technological, this technology also has environmental advantages. Yet another step in the modernization process is the complete abandonment of the copper infrastructure. This is also part of our environmental protection strategy. With the introduction of new technologies and the abandonment of old ones, in addition to obtaining higher speeds and better service, the consumption of electricity is drastically reduced and copper is reused as a resource.
