• The virtual "Borenka" trees became natural

• Over 10,000 seedlings planted on 4 hectares

Volunteers from Telekom and the Scout Association, together with National Forests, participated in a joint eco-action for complete restoration of the forests in the Eastern region. New 10,000 trees were planted on an area of 4 hectares, in Delcevo - Star Istevnik, a region whose green belt was damaged by forest fires in 2020-2021. This action is part of Telekom's partnership with the Scout Association, through the "Borenka" project.

"Borenka" is an eco-initiative for the reconstruction of burned regions in which everyone can participate: as creators of the virtual forest or as volunteers for reforestation via the activities of the Scout Association and the municipalities. In the virtual forest at www.borenka.mk, anyone can draw and plant their own virtual tree. Makedonski Telekom undertook a commitment to plant one natural tree for every drawn tree, in the Eastern region. In a joint reforestation action involving over 100 volunteers comprised of Telekom employees and scouts, the virtual magenta forest became natural.

Makedonski Telekom started with the renewal of the green belt affected by the fires last year, as part of the company's ESG agenda. Through the partnership with the Scout Association, it expanded its field of action and increased the awareness of the problem and the scale of the action.

Apart from the actions on the ground and the creation of a virtual forest, this partnership strengthens and develops the volunteerism and education of the youngest on the topic of environmental protection. In the last few months, over 3000 children from Macedonia were part of the educational workshops of "Borenka", where they learned how important forests are and drew their own tree in the virtual forest.

The forest fires destroyed a large part of the green belt in Macedonia, and in order to make a real difference we must take joint action. Together with our scout friends, we call for massive involvement of the citizens and companies aimed at reviving all regions affected by the fires.
