Increased number of DSL customers by 8.5%, which results in 157 thousand customers at the end of September 2011
The number of IPTV customers is 35 thousand, which constitutes an increase of 51.0% as compared to the same period of the last year

Makedonski Telekom AD – Skopje and T-Mobile Macedonia have published the financial results from the operation for the third quarter of 2011. According to the consolidated financial statements, Makedonski Telekom AD – Skopje and T-Mobile Macedonia, despite the strong market environment, have maintained a leading position in the segment of the fixed and the mobile telephony. However, in the third quarter of the year, primarily as a result of the strong competition on the market of mobile telephony, the sales revenues at Group level have decreased by 10.2% as compared to the same period of 2010.

Makedonski Telekom managed to keep its leading position with 77% market share in the segment of the fixed telephony and with 57% share on the market of broadband internet, in accordance with the internal data. However, the voice revenues of Makedonski Telekom have decreased due to the decreased number of customers by 8.5% resulting in a customer base of 318 thousand at the end of September 2011 and due to the decrease of the outgoing traffic by 6.7% in the third quarter of 2011 compared to the same period of the previous year.

As a result of the focus of Makedonski Telekom on the double and triple play packages, the total number of DSL customers at the end of September 2011 reached 157 thousand, which constitutes an increase of 8.5% compared to the same period of the last year.
With its unique IPTV service, Makedonski Telekom entered as a challenger on the market already dominated by the CATV providers. However, due to the high quality service, the interactivity and the unique TV experience with a possibility for recording, pausing and rewinding of the programme, Makedonski Telekom achieved an increase of the number of IPTV customers by 51.0% compared to the end of September 2010, as a result of which the number of customers was 35 thousand at the end of September 2011.

The intensified competition in the mobile telephony, especially in the prepaid and the business customers segment has resulted in a decrease of the mobile telephony revenues in the third quarter of 2011 as compared to the same quarter of 2010.

The decline in mobile revenues is mostly due to the decrease in the voice retail revenues, mainly as a result of the slight decrease in the subscriber base resulting to 1.3 million subscribers at the end of September 2011.

On the cost side, during the third quarter of 2011, the operating expenses declined by 4.5% compared to the same period in 2010. All the above-stated movements on the revenues and costs side resulted in a decrease of the net profit for the third quarter of 2011 by 18.2% compared to the same period of the previous year, resulting in a net profit of MKD 1,542,768 thousand.

"Although the competition and the market conditions influenced the results achieved in the third quarter of 2011, T-Mobile Macedonia has yet maintained its leading position with a market share of 50.3% according to the internal results. We remain market leaders and, in the future period, we will focus on the introduction of innovative services based on Internet and on the latest smart phones. At the same time, our activities are aimed at the modernization of the network and the upgrade of the base stations, in order to enable a bigger and faster traffic flow, concurrently following the possibilities and the needs of the customers on the Macedonian market, in order to be able to provide them with the best value for their money", said the Chief Executive Officer of T-Mobile, Mr. Zarko Lukovski.

Despite the overall macroeconomic situation in the country and the pressure arising from the competition, we managed to maintain our stability and leading position on the market, especially in the segment of the broadband internet and the IPTV service, wherein we achieved an increase of the number of IPTV customers by 51% as compared to the same quarter of 2010. As a company, we are enriching the contents and we are promoting the features of the MaxTV service in accordance with the needs and the requirements of our costumers and thus we hope that this trend of increasing the number of the IPTV and DSL customers will continue by the end of the year. Certainly, we concurrently continue working with an intensified tempo in order to achieve the projections for 2011.
