Summer 2013 – culture, sport, education

This year as well, Makedonski Telekom and T-Mobile Macedonia remain committed to the support of cultural, sports and educational events that are renowned and exceptionally significant. From the partnership of many years with the Ohrid Summer Festival and the Ohrid Marathon, to the support of the campaign for marking the 50th anniversary of the Skopje earthquake, we remain partners of the true values.

The partnership with the Ohrid Summer Festival lasts for 16 years now. This year, artists from 22 countries will take part in the festival, where in the music section the opening with Dmitri Hvorostovsky has drawn a special attention, as well as the world known cellist Antonio Meneses, the piano duo Korolev, the one and only violinist Nemanja Radulovic, wherein the appearance of the string quartet Bond on 27 July at the Antique Theatre is announced as a special attraction. In the drama section, there are 11 plays, half of which are premieres. The Ohrid Summer Festival ends on 20 August.

The summer 2013 shall be also remembered by the “Skopje Remembers” campaign which will mark the 50th anniversary of the Skopje earthquake. The aim of the campaign is to emphasise the values and qualities of Skopje and the people of Skopje, to attract attention to Skopje today, to promote it as a tourist centre and, of course, to remind about the catastrophic earthquake 50 years ago. The main event will take place on 26 July with the performance of the Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra at the Macedonia square.

This year, we also supported the Beer Festival 2013 that takes place in Prilep from 18 to 21 July. It is an attraction from many aspects, starting from the presenters, famous domestic and foreign brewers who, in addition to the beer brands, also present their culture and tradition. The festival has many visitors of more than 300,000 guests, foreign tourists, delegations, ambassadors and high government officials. At this event, a big emphasis is put on the music entertainment with the presence of domestic and big Balkan music stars.

The biggest sports international event in the country, the Ohrid Marathon, is supported by Makedonski Telekom and T-Mobile Macedonia this year as well. It will take place on 24 August 2013, and just like every year, it will attract the swimming elite from all around the world. This year, 27th time in a row, the marathon is part of the 15 marathons on the list of the International Swimming Federation (FINA), as one of the most important highly renowned marathons. The contestants swim a track of 30 kilometres, starting from Sv. Naum to the city peer. The event is followed by the international sports journalists and TV stations.

At the end of the summer, from 22 to 27 August, the Struga Poetry Evenings 2013 will take place. This event, also called the mother of the Macedonian modern poetry, was held for the first time in 1962. Over 5000 poets from all around the world have participated at this event, and we can say that all utmost poetic works in the second part of the twentieth century until now have been presented at the Struga Poetry Evenings.
