An embedded electronic card which will replace the standard SIM cards in the future

For the first time ever, Makedonski Telekom is launching eSIM on the market – an embedded electronic card, which constitutes evolution in the SIM technology and which, in the future, will fully replace the physical SIM cards. eSIM is a new way of connecting the devices with the mobile network and, unlike the standard SIM cards, which are to be physically placed in the device, this technology uses an embedded electronic chip, which enables online activation.

The development of eSIM will have an impact on the development of services in the domain of the Internet of Things and connected devices, since it enables them to operate independent from smart phones, which has been impossible thus far. This will bring a new way of communication and easier connection to smart watches, bikes and other IoT devices.

In addition to the technological and innovative, especially important is also the ecologic aspect, since the replacement of plastic cards and packages will contribute for the preservation of the environment.

In order to use this technology, you need a device that supports it, while in the future the number of such devices will be on the rise. eSIM gets activated in a simple manner, by scanning a QR code, whereby the eSIM profile is downloaded via internet, encrypted, in order to ensure a top security level. All post-paid users of the Telekom mobile network who have a device that supports eSIM can use the new electronic card.

eSIM is a step forward towards a complete digitalization and connection of devices, but at the same time is also an ecologic innovation. In the forthcoming years, it is expected to become a global trend in the offer of smart devices.
