Revenue drop in voice services and growth in the internet and IPTV segment

Makedonski Telekom and T-Mobile remain on the leading position on the market in the third quarter of 2013 as well. The increasing trend of the internet and IPTV segment continued, whereas the revenues from voice services in the fixed segment decreased.
The revenues at Group level in the first nine months of 2013 amounted to MKD 9,5 billion, which represents a decrease of 20.3% compared to the same period in 2012. The operating expenses in the first nine months of 2013 decreased by 5.6%, whereas the net profit amounted to MKD 1.5 billion and decreased by 57.0% compared to the same period of the previous year.
However, despite the negative trends, according to the internal estimates Makedonski Telekom has a market share of 69.9% in the fixed line segment and a market share of 52.6% in the broadband internet segment, thus remaining a market leader.
Despite the voice revenue drop in the fixed line segment, the revenues from internet and digital television via Internet protocol (“IPTV”) increased by 7.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. The focus on the double and triple play packages resulted in an increased number of DSL customers by 9.4%, resulting in DSL customer base of 182 thousand at the end of September 2013. At the end of September 2013 the number of fixed line customers decreased by 8.2% compared to September 2012, resulting in a customer base of 270 thousand.
Although Makedonski Telekom, with its IPTV service, entered as a challenger on the market already dominated by the CATV providers, Makedonski Telekom achieved an increase of the number of IPTV customers by 44.3% compared to end of September 2012. As a result of the high quality service, the interactivity and the unique TV experience, the customer base reached 84 thousand customers at the end of September 2013.
T-Mobile Macedonia has maintained its leading market position on the mobile telephony market with a market share of 49% (internal estimation) despite the strong competition. The decrease in the mobile revenues is mostly due to the decrease in the voice retail revenues, as a result of the decrease in the subscriber base to 1,2 million subscribers at the end of September 2013 and the decrease of the Average Revenue per User (ARPU) by 8.6%.
