Makedonski Telekom has enriched this year its traditional and long-standing partnership with the ”Ohrid Summer Festival”, one of the biggest and most important cultural manifestations in the country, with a new innovative musical project titled “The Voice of the Ohrid Lake”.

The project unites technology, music and nature and it is in line with the company's commitments to using technology for good, in order to encourage us to focus on the positive aspects of technology and its use for a good purpose.

To that end, we have established cooperation with one of the most innovative music composers in the country, Dzijan Emin, who thanks to the unlimited possibilities of technology, managed to record the sounds of Ohrid Lake. It is an unusual musical project through which Ohrid Lake can be heard in real time, with all its uniqueness and special traits, captured through the special music created by Dzijan.

The website http://glasotnaezeroto.mk/ has already been lunched, where every interested person can hear the sounds of Ohrid Lake at different depths and in different weather conditions (changeable, cloudy or sunny), what it sounds like in tourist peaks and on the crowded city beaches and how calm and idyllic it is early in the mornings.

How does it work?

A complex computer algorithm is "fed" with active data and variables directly related to Ohrid Lake (weather conditions, period of the day, depth, wildlife, external factors, etc.).Then, the algorithm "translates" all of this into sound samples created by Dzijan Emin and for the first time this natural spectacle is given a voice through which we will hear the enchanting song of the Macedonian natural pearl.

This unique musical project of Makedonski Telekom aims to remind us of the beauties of Ohrid Lake, its invaluable significance and value and the exceptional importance of its preservation. You can see the video at the following link.

With this idea, we convey the message that we can use technology for truly beneficial and above all important things both for the citizens and for the society in general. At the same time, the project encourages us to become aware of the value of our natural and cultural heritage that we need to preserve for the generations to come.
