Solar panels installed on the largest data centre in Skopje
CO2 emissions will be reduced by almost 50 thousand kg per year

Makedonski Telekom installed its own system for energy production from solar radiation on the largest data centre in Skopje. The system comprises 148 solar panels and an inverter on a surface area of 300 m² on the roof of the TC building in the centre of Skopje and will produce more than 80 thousand kWh per year of green electricity for its own needs.

This system will reduce the harmful emission of CO2 in the air by almost 50 thousand kg every year. By comparison, if this amount of electricity is generated in a thermal power plant, it will take about 2000 trees to absorb the harmful CO2 emissions from the air.

It is planned, in the future the production data centres in the country to be powered by renewable energy sources, whereby Makedonski Telekom, as one of the largest companies, will directly influence on the reduction of harmful emissions. Such investments will have a positive impact on creating green environment in the urban areas.

The company has also actively involved its employees in the implementation of the environmental strategy. The initiative for own solar system on the data centres, which are large consumers of electricity, comes from a team of employees in various areas, in response to the need for more efficient energy management in the company's buildings.

Makedonski Telekom influences the protection of the environment also by investing in: innovative network technologies, smart city solutions, Cloud and ICT solutions, fleet optimization, as well as joint initiatives with the competent state authorities to reduce air pollution.

By investing in such projects, the company has an active impact on the environment protection and is getting closer to the Deutsche Telekom Group's target to reduce harmful CO2 emissions by 90 percent by 2030.
